What is the Skills Development Levy (SDL)?

SDL is a levy imposed to encourage learning and development in South Africa and determined by an employer’s annual salary bill.

When am I required to pay SDL?

Only organisations with a total annual payroll equal to or higher than R500 000 need to register.

How much SDL do I need to pay?

1% of the total amount paid in salaries to employees (including overtime payments, leave pay, bonuses, commissions and lump sum payments)

How can SDL benefit my organisation?

Both Mandatory and Discretionary funding can be claimed from your relevant SETA to implement training and upskilling staff.

What is the role of SDE Consulting within my organisation in terms of Skills Development?

We manage the entire process from development to implementation ensuring your Mandatory funds are claimed along with the applications for Discretionary funding. We communicate with the SETA on your behalf, cater for your training needs with our vast range of accredited training programmes and minimise administration for your organisation, leaving you to focus on your business.

What is Employment Equity?

Employment Equity applies to all designated employers to protect workers and job seekers from unfair discrimination.

What is a designated employer?

A designated employer is any organisation with more than 50 staff and/or with a turnover higher than the industry set threshold.

Are there any consequences if we do not comply?

Any designated employer not complying with the equity act will be fined the greater of R1,5m or 2% of the annual turnover up to R2,7m or 10% of the annual turnover.

What is the role of SDE Consulting within my organisation in terms of Employment Equity?
